FAQ
Plumbing questions, answered
What Kingston homeowners ask us most before they book. For questions about a specific job, each service page has its own answers.
Booking, pricing and how we work
How much does a plumber cost in Kingston?
It depends on the job. You get a rough range first (on some jobs over the phone or from a photo, before Conor Ryan comes out), then the exact price in writing before any work starts, so you can decide with the number in front of you. If there's more than one way to fix it, you get each option and its price, the cheaper one included. There's no call-out fee. Nights and weekends carry an after-hours rate. You hear it on the phone before we come.
Do you charge to come out and look?
No. There's no call-out fee, day or night. You only pay for work you approve.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Conor Ryan is a Master Plumber, a licensed Red Seal Plumber and a licensed G1 gas technician. Shea Plumbing is liability insured and WSIB covered.
How do I check that a plumber is licensed in Ontario?
Plumbing is a compulsory trade in Ontario, so anyone doing it for pay needs a Certificate of Qualification (trade 306A) or a registered apprenticeship. Search the person's name on the Skilled Trades Ontario public register. Conor Ryan is a licensed Red Seal Plumber.
What is your guarantee?
Fixed right, or fixed free: if the same problem comes back within 12 months of our repair, we come back and fix it at no charge. It covers parts and labour on the repair. A new clog from what goes down the drain is a new problem.
What hours are you open?
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for emergencies. Call (613) 449-1758.
Which areas do you serve?
Kingston, South Frontenac, Loyalist Township, Greater Napanee and Deseronto, Stone Mills, Central Frontenac, Gananoque and Leeds and the Thousand Islands, Westport and the Rideau Lakes, and Wolfe, Howe and Amherst islands.
How do I book?
Call (613) 449-1758, or book online in about two minutes. For emergencies, always call.
What payment methods do you accept?
Interac e-Transfer, credit card, debit, cash and cheque.
Do you work for landlords and property managers?
Yes. Several of our Google reviewers are landlords who use Shea Plumbing for all their rental properties. Call to set up how you'd like tenants' calls and invoices handled.
Do you do commercial plumbing?
Yes. Along with homes, we handle plumbing for businesses and rental properties, from washrooms to water heaters. Call to talk through the job.
What is the Shea Promise?
Five things on every job: the price before any work; no fee to come out; fixed right, or fixed free; we show up when we say; and a free plumbing check, every visit. The guarantee covers parts and labour for 12 months, and Conor Ryan, the owner, is on every job.
How to check any plumber in Kingston before you hire
Whoever you call, these five checks take a few minutes and protect you.
- Look up their licence. Plumbing is a compulsory trade in Ontario. Anyone doing it for pay needs a Certificate of Qualification (trade 306A) or a registered apprenticeship. Search their name on the Skilled Trades Ontario public register.
- Get the price before work starts. A written or texted quote for the agreed job, not an hourly rate with no end.
- Ask about insurance. Liability insurance covers damage to your home if something goes wrong.
- Read recent reviews, not just the score. Look for reviews from the last few months that describe real jobs.
- Get an invoice with a business name on it. You'll need it for insurance, warranties and any follow-up.
Signs worth pausing on: pressure to decide on the spot, a refusal to give any price before starting, cash only with no invoice, or no business name or phone number you can check.
