Short answer
In Ontario, gas lines and gas appliance connections must be installed by a certified gas technician. Conor Ryan of Shea Plumbing holds a G1 licence, the highest gas technician certification, and installs gas lines for BBQs, ranges, dryers and water heaters across Kingston and area. There's no call-out fee, and you get the price before any work starts.
Gas work we do
- BBQ and patio heater lines, with a quick-connect outlet on the deck
- Gas range and cooktop connections
- Gas dryer hookups
- Gas water heaters, tank and tankless (see water heaters)
- Gas fireplace and garage heater connections
- Moving or extending an existing gas line, and adding shut-off valves
Why gas work has to be licensed
Gas work in Ontario is regulated by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). A licensed gas technician sizes the line for every appliance on it, pressure-tests it for leaks, and makes sure each appliance is connected and vented properly. Unlicensed gas work is unsafe, and it can cause problems with your home insurance. Conor holds a G1 gas licence.
If you smell gas
Leave the house right away. Don't flip switches or use a phone inside. Call 911 or your gas utility from outside, and don't go back in until it's been checked. A gas leak is the gas utility's emergency first. Once they've made it safe, we can repair or replace the line or the connection.
